The National Lubricant Container Recycling Coalition Welcomes New Associate Member Safety-Kleen

The National Lubricant Container Recycling Coalition (NLCRC) is pleased to announce that Safety-Kleen, a Clean Harbors Company, has joined the coalition as an associate member.

Serving as the NLCRC’s collector and transportation for the lubricant containers in the Atlanta Lubricant Container Recycling Pilot, Safety-Kleen is no stranger to the NLCRC.

As a project partner, Safety-Kleen has been fundamental in the execution of developing an end-to-end solution by collecting and recycling post-consumer lubricant containers from multiple sources, involving multiple locations in the Atlanta market, including select retail stores and auto care centers, instant oil change locations, commercial facilities, and a community waste collection center.

“Safety-Kleen has been a valued partner since the initial set up of the Atlanta pilot program, making the necessary logistics adjustments as we continue to learn more about the dynamics of consumer collection. Safety-Kleen’s decision to become a member of the NLCRC is a demonstration of their commitment to our vision.” ~ Tristan Steichen, Director of NLCRC

“Given our ongoing partnership, we are excited to become a member of the NLCRC. At Safety-Kleen, delivering a range of sustainability solutions to customers is what we do. As the leading collector of used motor oil in North America, we look forward to continuing to collaborate with the NLCRC to help the coalition achieve its goal of developing a sustainable and efficient process for recycling used plastic lubricant bottles. We collect well over 200 million gallons of waste oil annually. Our customers want an alternative to better manage their bottles and containers. In conjunction with the NLCRC, we are helping provide options to safely collect, store, and treat these materials on a post-consumer basis. Our collective goal is to ultimately have these containers recycled repeatedly – just as we do with waste oil in our re-refineries, which we can turn back into base oil and lubricants an infinite number of times,” said William McKim, Executive Vice President, Bulk Products and Services Division.

Joining NLCRC members Berry Global, Castrol, Chevron, CKS Packaging Inc., Graham Packaging, Nexus Circular, Pennzoil - Quaker State Company, Petroleum Packaging Council, Plastipak Packaging,  and Valvoline, Safety-Kleen furthers its role in creating systemic, collaborative solutions for post-consumer recovery and recycling of plastic oil bottles within the U.S.
